Regardless of the weather, you have to go to work everyday. Rather it's windy, raining or snowing, you are expected to be at work. While it can become tiresome, it's the only way you are going to get a paycheck. The good news is that you can personalize your office to make it feel more like home.

One of the first things you can do to help your office feel more like home is to have a comfortable temperature in which to work. This could mean making adjustment to the current temperature. However, that is not always possible, so you must improvise. Leaving an extra jacket or sweater at the office for cooler days can be very helpful. Also, if you tend to get too warm, you can bring a fan that you can use at your desk to help cool things off. The temperature at our homes is usually set at a place where we are most comfortable. While you may not have as much flexibility at work, you can still make sure that you are comfortable so you can get your work done.

Another way that you can help make your office more comfortable is to let the sun into your office. While this is not always possible, you need to open up blinds and curtains to let the rays and warmth of the sun come into your workstation. This is important because it has been proven that you will be more productive with natural sunlight.

If you are having trouble seeing, it's time to move some lights around or invest in new ones. Perhaps you can't see well at your computer. Rather than squinting, you need to get a light near your desk so you can see. Sometimes just a simple floor or desk lamp can make all the difference.

Another thing to consider is the type of furniture you are using at the office each day. While we are used to our furniture at home and buy it to fit our style and needs, sometimes we don't have that option at work. However, there are now many offices that are using ergonomic furniture to make the workers comfortable and also keep them as healthy as possible. An ergonomic desk or chair, for example, would be able to be adjusted to provide a way for the employee to get work done with as little stress to the body as possible. Having quality furniture that is sturdy and made to provide extra support can help the office be a place of comfort.

Since you can't always work from home, perhaps you can bring a little of your home into the office. For example, many offices are brightened by a favorite plant that someone brings from home. While it may not seem like much, a plant that you enjoy taking care of can give you just enough diversion in your workday to lighten some stress.

If you work in a smaller office, you may even have the opportunity to decorate your own office. Perhaps some new paint or wallpaper would brighten things up. Even a border around the room can make a big difference in how it looks. Pictures on the wall that are pleasing to the eye can make things feel more like home. Also, it's always nice to take pictures of your family and pets and place them on your desk. There is nothing more refreshing than feeling connected with those you love and care for as you go through your busy days.

Another thing that can help make your office more comfortable is to use your own particular office supplies. While most offices equip us with pens, pencils, staplers, and tape dispensers, we all have a particular pen or stapler that we like. Take things to work that will make it easier for you to be happy throughout your day. If you are permitted to play music while you work, find some gentle music that is pleasing to everyone.

Last, but not least, take the time to be friendly at work. Life isn't always easy, but your attitude about work can make a huge difference in your productivity. It has been proven that those who are negative and complain a lot affect those around you. We all have bad days and times when we are stressed. However, if you can take the time to be kind to another, it most generally will come back to you when you need it.

It's not difficult to make your office feel more like home. It just takes some ingenuity and motivation. You may need to ask your employer about making some changes. Other changes you can make on your own. Do what you can to make your office a place in which you enjoy working.
